Voicing a piano is the process of resetting the felt of the hammers. The hammer is what makes contact with the string; its strike is the final step in a series of mechanisms which converts a key being pressed into vibrating strings. Piano hammers are covered in dense felt. Over time, through thousands of repetitions, the felt compacts into hardened grooves. This harder surface can make your instrument sound brittle, harsh, and thin. Our job is to first assess the sound of ALL of your hammers. Through the use of sandpaper and needles, we will soften and reshape your hammers for a consistently pleasing sound across all 88 keys.
